We tailor advisory engagements to the specific needs of organizations and the people that populate them, acting as enablers and facilitators of individual and organizational progress—we call it Culture by Design—continually challenging both the status quo and the conventional wisdom. Our approach is geared to the decidedly practical application of a massive body of academic research that can often prove to be incomprehensibly arcane.
Our Comprehensive Culture Coaching services and information range from awareness to transformation. Engagements vary from introductory presentations, to short-term interventions usually focused on individual coaching or group dynamics, to longer immersive projects generally involving organization and/or leadership development and managed culture transformation–all geared to the ultimate goal of improved performance.
Such services include coaching, consulting, facilitated interactive workshops introducing the subject of organizational culture in various levels of detail, and range from early-stage sessions geared for entrepreneurs, start-ups and young growing organizations—getting culture right from the start is a huge advantage—up to and including in-depth presentation of the dynamic transformation process, administration of enterprise-wide culture and workforce engagement surveys, and finally, full implementation of the comprehensive program.
Typically, we work initially with CEOs, founders and/or senior leadership groups of middle market and smaller organizations. The senior leadership orientation workshop is a unique staple of our practice, providing individual insight and self-awareness, strengthening group cohesion, engendering a genuine understanding of organizational culture and establishing the essential foundation necessary to the success of any sustainable culture improvement effort. We consider this an indispensable first step in the culture transformation process, and think it imperative that we confront the most difficult issues upfront if we’re to have any chance of achieving the enlightened leadership we seek—and yes, a few sacred cows will likely perish along the way. After the fact, most participants will also admit it was kinda fun. Mostly.
We are also positioned to assist clients with the development and implementation of CSR/ESG programs that are becoming increasingly important to private equity firms and other investors, as well of course, to companies seeking investment. Fully a quarter of managed funds are now limiting investments to only companies with high ESG scores. The 2019 Business Roundtable Statement on the Purpose of a Corporation has given impetus to these trends, and to the subject of organizational culture broadly.
Unlike most other advisory or consulting firms, we believe that clients are not interested in buying our time per se. Rather, they are willing to pay for outcomes that can add value to their respective organizations. One of our core principles is that creating value is prerequisite to realizing profit. Thus, our billing structure and engagement terms are a bit different than what might be considered the norm. As are our services.
Our customized services are generally designed for and readily adaptable to medium-sized (500 or fewer employees) and smaller organizations, or similarly sized discrete units of larger entities.
